On July 5, 2013, Fox Searchlight will release THE WAY WAY BACK, the first feature film written and directed by Jim Rash and Nat Faxon (who, you may remember, won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay along with Alexander Payne for THE DESCENDANTS). It's a summer, coming-of-age comedy for the whole family, and sure to enter the Searchlight pantheon alongside such modern classics as JUNO, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, and 500 DAYS OF SUMMER. The movie stars Liam James, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, AnnaSophia Robb, Sam Rockwell (in his most "Sam Rockwell" role possibly ever), Maya Rudolph, Allison Janney, Rob Corddry and Amanda Peet (and of course, Jim and Nat themselves!). In case you haven't seen it yet, here's the trailer:

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world - all during a summer he will never forget.

The official poster features a somewhat sullen Duncan, isolated underwater in a pool while his adult counterparts float above him. Something tells us Duncan might find a helping hand at Water Wizz... get to a theater on July 5 to find out!
