LOS ANGELES, CA July 22, 2008 Fox Searchlight Pictures President Peter Rice today announced that the company will distribute the romantic comedy MY LIFE IN RUINS in North America, Australia and New Zealand. Directed by Donald Petrie and written by Mike Reiss, MY LIFE IN RUINS stars Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Harland Williams and Rachel Dratch. The film was produced by Michelle Chydzik Sowa and Nathalie Marciano with Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Peter Safran serving as executive producers. The film is scheduled to be released in 2009.
Given the wildly enthusiastic audience response, we are thrilled to be distributing the film. Nias enormous box office appeal along with her gift of perfect comedic timing make for a winning combination, said Fox Searchlight Pictures President Peter Rice. Producers Michelle Chydzik Sowa, Nathalie Marciano, Gary Goetzman, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Peter Safran have proven that films with broad audience appeal can still be made independently.
Added Nia Vardalos, I am thrilled! Working with Fox Searchlight is the perfect marriage.
In a time of tent pole pictures, I am excited to have Fox Searchlight behind this film giving it the attention it deserves, says Donald Petrie.
From Nia Vardalos, writer and star of MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, comes the hilarious comedy MY LIFE IN RUINS. Georgia (Nia Vardalos) has lost her kefi (Greek for mojo). Discouraged by her lack of direction in life, she works as a travel guide, leading a rag-tag group of tourists as she tries to show them the beauty of her native Greece. While opening their eyes to an exotic foreign land, she too begins to see things in new waysfinding her kefi in the process.
The film was brought into Fox Searchlight by Vice President of Acquisitions Ray Strache and the deal was brokered by Executive Vice President of Business Affairs Joey DeMarco and Director of Business Affairs Kobie Conner. The film was represented by Bob Wallerstein of Hirsch, Wallerstein, Hayum, Matlof and Fishman.
